Using a Hookah Pipe

worldofweed | Hookah Pipes, How-To Articles | Friday, November 11th, 2011

A hookah pipe, sometimes colloquially known as a hubble-bubble pipe or shisha, is a type of pipe that cools the smoke with water before inhalation. Originating in India, it spread to Iran and Turkey, before becoming popular in the UK.  In recent years, shisha bars have been springing up in high streets across the land, where smokers of legal highs can go to socialise, enjoy food and drink along with their hookah pipes.  Shisha bars are often run by people of Middle Eastern descent, and are exempt from the UK-wide smoking ban, as smoking is the primary focus of the bar.

Using a Hookah At Home

You do not have to visit a shisha lounge to smoke a hookah.  In fact, if your preference is for herbal highs, you may be put off by the focus on flavoured tobacco at such places.  Companies such as Roor Pipes make glass hookahs and bongs, a smaller, more portable version of a hookah, for use in private.

The hookah is smoked by filling the bowl at the bottom with water, and then inserting a metal pipe a couple of inches below the surface. The herbal blend is placed near the top of the pipe and the smoke is sucked through a hose and cooled in the water before being inhaled.  Ash is left inside the hookah, so there is no need to use one of the stylish glass ashtrays made by Roor.  A hookah gives a more mellow smoke than a cigarette, but is no healthier, according to the World Health Organisation.  Therefore, there is no point in putting away your Rizla rolling machine tin in the belief that the smoke from a hookah is healthier than that from a roll-up.

Hookah Pipes – a traditional smoking accessory

worldofweed | Hookah Pipes, Smoking | Sunday, December 12th, 2010

Hookah pipes originated in India and grew in popularity, particularly throughout the Middle East regions.  The apparatus is used to enjoy smoking tobacco and other plant substances.

For many years the hookah pipe smoking was considered a safe alternative to conventional cigarette and cigar smoking, but current research has shown that it has the same health hazards which can include lung and mouth cancer, and gum disease.  The governments of Iran and Dubai have taken steps to ban the use of hookah pipes for health and safety reasons.

For those who want to continue to enjoy the pleasures of smoking a hookah pipe without the serious side effects, the answer is to use a tobacco substitute such as herbal shisha.

Using herbal shisha in your hookah pipe has lots of benefits.  The ingredients are completely natural, and are made from herbs with fruit flavours added to spice it up such as apple, peach and blueberry.  That means you can enjoy the purity of the shisha without inhaling any harmful chemicals, as well as having a wonderful fruity smell drifting around your room.

Herbal shisha is legal and you won’t fail a drug test or be unable to drive or operate machinery, as you won’t feel drowsy.

You can buy shisha in shops across the UK, or online.  There are also a number of shisha cafes in major UK cities including London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Hookah Pipes and Herbal Shisha

worldofweed | Hookah Pipes, Smoking | Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Hookah pipes have been used in India and the Middle East for centuries as a method of enjoying the effects of tobacco and other types of plants.  For a long time it was thought that hookah pipes were a safer method of enjoying nicotine compared to smoking a cigarette.   But recent evidence proves that hookah pipes are just as dangerous and can lead to lung cancer and gum disease.  Authorities in Dubai and Iran have forbidden the use of pipes.

If you want to use a hookah pipe but don’t want to run the risk of developing a serious and often incurable disease, a safe alternative is to use herbal shisha.  Made from various herbs and flavoured with different fruits, it is milder than traditional hookah tobacco but is still a great smoke for those who love using their hookah pipe but remain health conscious.

Herbal shisha is a fruit alternative to tobacco and is available at shops in towns and cities across the UK, or on dozens of websites.  As well as not containing harmful chemical properties, herbal shisha is legal.  That means that you can drive without the fear of being stopped and failing any drug test.  You can work machinery without the fear of causing any bodily damage.  Herbal shisha is legal and won’t give you any side effects.

You can buy a whole range of wonderful fruity smelling shisha.  Peach, pineapple, apple and blueberry cane be pleasantly wafting around your house.

Health effects of a hookah pipe

worldofweed | Hookah Pipes | Friday, October 1st, 2010

Until recently, it was considered less dangerous to smoke a hookah pipe than to smoke a cigarette. It was thought that the water used to filter the smoke made the effects of the tobacco less harmful and allayed fears about the true health risks of smoking in this manner.

The World Health Organisation has since carried out a study that shows that using a hookah is just as damaging to a person’s health as smoking cigarettes. It has been demonstrated that the water in a hookah does not remove all the harmful chemicals as was previously thought.

A hookah session normally lasts about 40 minutes and in this time a person can inhale from 50 to 200 times, breathing in as much as .50 litres of smoke per inhalation. Research has shown that in this time users consume approximately 150 times the smoke and 70% more nicotine than they would if they had smoked a single cigarette.

Users have been found to be five times more at risk from lung cancer than non-users and five times more likely to suffer from gum disease.

Concerns about the harmful damage to health have prompted some countries to ban the public use of hookahs. Dubai has banned the use of hookahs in cafés after midnight for health and moral reasons, while in Iran the authorities have forbidden hookahs in any public space. Iranian authorities are concerned that the sociable smoking experience is encouraging young people to meet socially and flirt.

Hookah Pipes are growing in popularity

worldofweed | Herbal Highs, Hookah Pipes, Legal Highs, Smoking | Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Hookah pipes are a method of inhalation that originated in India, spread to the Middle East and has lately gained popularity in the Western world. Also known as narghile, sheesha and even hubbly bubbly, hookah water pipe smoking involves using a large pipe that combines water and indirect heat in order to provide the inhalation experience.

Hookah pipes are generally used for smoking either flavoured tobacco or herbal fruits and very much falls into the category of a ‘legal high’. There are very complex methods used to enhance the experience, from chilling the hoses to putting ice or fruit juice or even wine into the water used, while some users and manufacturers also add different flavours to the tobacco in order to vary the taste and experience. Smoking hookah pipes has come to be regarded as a very social experience.

However, there is a definite downside to the hookah pipe experience. While legal, there are health risks which put smoking a hookah water pipe into the exact same dangerous category as smoking normal cigarettes, as the same substances – such as carbon monoxide, tar and tobacco – are used in both, and hookah pipes do not, as many wrongly believe, filter out the harmful elements.

Both cancer and gum disease have been linked to the use of hookah pipes. Indeed, even smoking the hookah pipe itself can be lethal if the correct charcoal is not used to begin with, as using the wrong kind can result in the production of potentially deadly carbon monoxide gas.

While hookah pipes provide a legal high, ensure you are aware of the health risks and enjoy the benefits.
