All About Salvia Divinorum

worldofweed | Drugs Information, Legal Highs, Smoking | Friday, August 6th, 2010

Salvia divinorum is a psychoactive plant that originated in remote areas of the tropical evergreen forests of Mexico. Media headlines sometimes liken salvia divinorum to LSD, although it has low chemical toxicity and low addictive potential. It has legal status throughout most parts of the world.

The salvia divinorum plant was originally used in religious ceremonies by Mazatec shamans, who used it to alter states of consciousness and facilitate visions during healing sessions. Traditionally, the shamans crushed the leaves to extract the juices. They then mixed the juices with water to create an infusion that induces visions when drunk.  Nowadays, people tend to either smoke or chew the leaves.

The leaves can be smoked using a normal pipe or blunt, but the more popular method is to use some kind of bong. Glass bongs, acrylic bongs or roor bongs are ideal and preferable to blunts. The effect of smoking salvia is fast, within a minute of inhaling and lasts for up to five minutes.  Chewing the leaves gives the user a longer lasting effect.

People experience different reactions and sensations when taking any psychoactive drug and salvia is no different. Some reactions include uncontrollable laughter, the feeling of being disconnected from one’s body and merging with or becoming objects.

Although the intense high is reached very quickly and the main effect lasts only a few minutes, most people state that they continue to feel happy and relaxed for a while after using salvia.

Salvia usage is increasing with many people describing it as a plant from heaven while others are calling for it to be made illegal. With such popularity, you might find you need to buy stash lighters just to keep some for yourself!

Information about legal highs

worldofweed | Drugs Information, Legal Highs | Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

While the phrase “getting high” unfortunately brings with it some dubious connotations in the modern age, there are many ways of achieving what is known as a “legal high”. These “legal highs” can be reached by using herbs or drugs that give great results without breaking the law and with minimal health risk.

Perhaps because of the negative connotation of drugs and “getting high” in the media and general mainstream consciousness, it is often said that the only drugs the majority of people know about are the very ones that are worst for them and illegal to buy, sell or use. Meanwhile, the legal and much safer drugs are paradoxically hidden from public view. These legal highs mirror many of the results of illegal drugs, and can be quite effective.

However, it is important to note that some legal highs, while not illegal, can still be dangerous to the user. Anyone contemplating using a “legal high” is therefore advised to do research on the safety of the drug in question before indulging, and not to assume that just because it is legal that means it is harmless. They should also check specifically for complications with medication they are taking and any known medical conditions.

One of the “legal highs” that is considered to be among the best and the safest is known as a “herbal high”. Most herbal highs provide benefits, such as euphoria, but come without the unpleasant consequences of “coming down” which are associated with toxins.

Psychedelic natural highs

worldofweed | Drugs Information, Herbal Highs | Monday, June 7th, 2010

Psychedelic legal highs have been used for thousands of years around the world, ranging from medicinal purposes to their use in rituals. Psychedelic drugs eventually evolved to the point where they became used for recreational purposes when Albert Hoffman synthesized LSD.

Regardless of their popularity in modern times and their questionable legality in certain areas, there is much history regarding the use of psychedelic substances as a traditional form of natural high. They are incredibly important in medicine and religion because of their perceived ability to promote physical and mental well being.

The better-known psychedelics are plants such as peyote and the San Pedro cactus, known as Morning Glory Ayahuasca. They are usually brewed into a form of tea and consumed orally.

The compounds within these natural products are mind-altering, but the resulting effect depends upon the individual. Mostly, the effects include a general change of consciousness in conjunction with mild euphoria, relaxation and reduced stress.

Most Western countries in the world consider the use of psychedelics to be completely illegal. Therefore, if you are looking to use mushrooms or some other form of psychedelic as a means of obtaining legal highs, pay close attention to the rules of whatever country you happen to be in. Many countries have punitive punishments for the possession or use of these drugs, so the laws should be carefully adhered to.

As with any type of medication or drug, there may be adverse side effects if psychedelics are consumed in large quantities.

Questions Regarding the Legality Issues of Bongs

worldofweed | Bongs, Drugs Information | Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Under the Federal Drug Paraphernalia Statute of the United States, which is a section of the Controlled Substances Act passed into law in October of 1970, it is illegal to distribute, sell, or transport drug paraphernalia.  Additionally, the illegality is relative to transporting said paraphernalia across state lines or international borders, the exportation or importation of said items, or distributing them through the different governmental mail or postal services.

In those countries where it is illegal to smoke certain controlled substances such as hashish and/or marijuana, some of the smarter retailers and vendors of paraphernalia will post that the bongs they are selling have been intended for the smoking of tobacco.  They have done this in the hopes of circumventing those laws which make the sale and distribution of paraphernalia illegal.

It’s important to remember that the word “bong” in no way implies or technically defines a device intended solely for the smoking of an illegal substance.  However, connotations that are drug-related in nature have been formed by use of the terminology itself.  Interestingly enough, “head” shops and smoke shops will not serve those customers who come into the facility for the purposes of purchasing a bong should they use the word to explain what they are shopping for.

Realistically, this is just a matter of semantics.  But in countries such as the US where you can get arrested for the possession of paraphernalia as well as possessing controlled or illegal substances that you smoke using the bong, the penalties are considerably harsher.

Legal Highs and What You Need to Consider

worldofweed | Drugs Information, Herbal Highs, Legal Highs | Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Legal highs are often associated with herbal highs and were primarily born out of the “Rave” generation, although they have now become popular in other demographic areas.  The increase in popularity was two-fold in nature – staying alive and staying legal while still getting high.  Legal highs have provided club-goers, partiers, and other individuals with an avenue to getting high without risking any legal consequences.

Most retailers and vendors of herbal and natural substances have a common goal and that is seeing that you don’t get arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance.  Legal, herbal, or natural highs as they are oftentimes referred to are obtained by the introduction of natural and/or organic properties of plants (or plant matter) into your body’s system.

They are similar to other illegal, controlled substances such as a drug or some form of narcotic.  Additionally, that plant matter can be ingested in liquid or pill form, as well as by smoking it.  The plant matter can be consumed by smoking it through acrylic bongs or glass bongs, or if the material is rolled up in a “blunt”, which looks like a cigar or cigarette.  The bottom line is that if they are ingested correctly, they are legal and safe.

Legal highs represent an entirely new generation of very powerful, mind-altering substances which are growing in popularity globally, not just in the UK.  There are currently no accurate statistics to back up their popularity other than retail sales figures because these substances are currently not being monitored that much by the various drug enforcement agencies found worldwide.
