Algerian Blend

worldofweed | Blunts, Legal Highs, Smoking | Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Algerian Blend is another of those “legal highs” where many users’ main reaction is, “I can’t believe it’s still legal!” As you might surmise, this is because it is an extraordinary powerful combination of no less than five herbs that come together to have a major impact on the user.

The herbs mixed in Algerian Blend include: the euphoria causing Damiana; Skull Cap, a powerful herb that was once used by the Native Americans to cause visions; Catnip, which has a definite hallucinogenic effect; Wild Opium Lettuce, a herb not too dissimilar to Opium which has both a calming and a hypnotising quality; and valerian, which is essentially a calming herb with a sedative quality akin to that of Valium.

Algerian Blend can be brewed as a tea or smoked like tobacco in blunts – the latter giving a more powerful effect than the former. Algerian Blend gives the user a very relaxed, mellow feeling and is also reputed to enhance dreaming. If being smoked, it can be enjoyed in a pipe or a blunt (a hollowed out cigar).

At the moment, Algerian Blend is legal in just about all countries (including the United Kingdom). It is rumoured that some Asian countries may be reviewing its legal status, however, so be careful with it if you are going on holiday to foreign countries.

As with most “legal highs”, Algerian Blend is not recommended for use for children or for women who are carrying a child. While some users have reported hallucinatory effects, that is not what Algerian Blend is mostly known for, with its calming, chilled out effects being its most widely touted qualities.

Blunt Talk

worldofweed | Blunts, Herbal Highs, Legal Highs, Smoking | Friday, August 13th, 2010

Blunts originated in New York City in the early 1980s, when they started being used by the local Caribbean community. A blunt is essentially the leaf wrapping of a cigar packed with a mixture of tobacco and herbal blends.

Although originally the herbal blends used were and still are somewhat dubious from a legal point of view, blunts can be filled with legal substances which, when mixed with tobacco, have mildly intoxicating effects and help users achieve their desired legal highs without resorting to illegal methods.

Blunts derive their name from the cigar brand of choice that is used for the wrapping of the mixture, Phillies Blunt, which apparently produces a sweeter smoke that is less harsh on the back of the throat, although El Producto and White Owl are two other popular choices.

The use of a cigar wrapping has the benefit of allowing the smoker to extinguish and re-light the blunt at will and is therefore more economical than cigarettes. Also, the tobacco enhances the effects of the herbal mixture.

Blunts can be conveniently carried around in a pocket, and their unique herbal and tobacco blends stored in items such as stash lighters which are, as the name implies, used to store one’s ‘stash’, and consist of essentially hollowed out lighters that are opened at one end to access the storage space, whilst looking to all intents and purposes like regular lighters.

Blunts are particularly popular with rap stars and their followers, who regard them as a part of their culture.

Smoking blunts

worldofweed | Blunts, Bongs, Herbal Highs, Smoking | Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Over the years, the term blunts has come to define any type of cigar with the typical blunt shape. However, it once meant a specific cigar wrapped in a single, continuous leaf. Nowadays, it includes some cigars wrapped in what is known as spiral binding. While the basic shape of a blunt has remained unchanged over the years, the burn characteristics of a spiral wrapped cigar are not the same as a continuous leaf.

Individual blunt leaves, or pulped leaves transformed into tobacco paper, are available for rolling as a single sheet; they are used in most countries for wrapping ‘roll your own’ tobacco. As is common with many methods of smoking legal highs, including various herbs, using a blunt is one of the easiest ways to smoke the product. While handheld vaporizers and glass bongs are also popular, as are acrylic bongs, smoking in a blunt form is sometimes considered traditional. Many people prefer smoking blunts to any other method of smoking legal highs.  When smoking a blunt, it’s worth noting that it is a wasteful way to consume whichever herb you are using for legal highs. The easiest method is to take the cigar, cut down the length of the trunk, remove the tobacco from within and replace it with your herbal supplement. Afterwards, moisten the cigar leaf and use the paper and leaf as a wrap for your herbal product. Whilst it is not the most effective way of using the herbal products, it remains popular around the world.

Rolling the perfect blunt

worldofweed | Blunts, Herbal Highs, Smoking | Monday, March 15th, 2010

Blunts are essentially had rolled cigars that are filled with various herbs and plants.  Often, some shredded tobacco is also included in the mixture.  Rolling a blunt is a lot like rolling a cigar, although some would say that the process is even simpler.  Here are some tips to help you roll a blunt and enjoy a really good high.

Preparing the ingredients for the blunt is your first step.  Tobacco can help keep the mixture somewhat cohesive, but you also want to pay close attention to how you prepare the herbs or plants that you include.  Generally, dried ingredients work best, and are easier to work with.  Grind the ingredients, but make sure the result is not too fine; if it is, there is a good chance you’ll end up with a mouthful of tiny pieces every time you inhale.

You can use any type of cigar wrapper for your blunt, but the best option would probably be a tobacco leaf.  The flavour of the leaf will help to enhance the flavour and aroma of all the herbs you include in the filler, while still being strong enough to keep the blunt together while you smoke.

One final thing to keep in mind is that there is no need to pack the filler as tightly as you can.  You do want plenty of filler, so you can enjoy a really good smoke.  But if you pack the ingredients too tightly, it could hurt the overall effect.  You want the blunt to be firm, but not hard.

It may take a few tries to get the hang of preparing the filler, packing the wrapper, and getting just the right feel to the blunt.  Don’t get frustrated, since you can easily just smoke any of those first experiments, then move on to the next try.  Before long, rolling a blunt will become second nature, and you’ll find that it is easy to roll several without thinking about the process at all.

Blunts

PipeDreamer | Blunts | Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Blunts are often favoured by connoisseurs of the smoking world, they are essentially the cigar alternative for those who like to construct their own. Of course someone can roll one for you, but the point is that you can select your own blend.

The shape of the blunt is how it acquired its name, blunts are generally rolled with a broad tipped end as opposed to the tapered, pointed tips of other cigars. Originally, blunts were rolled using a single continuous tobacco leaf (which gave them their distinct shape) but more modern varieties available today are generally tobacco pulp formed into a thickish, paper like wrap. These popular modern versions are usually imbued with an accompanying flavour, although natural unenhanced versions are still available.

The flavours that accompany the blunt and mingle best with the act of smoking seem to be fruit, berry and sweet flavours. Cigars and brandy go together famously well, so it is no surprise that alcoholic beverage and cocktail flavours are also found to be complimentary. Blunts have been smoked in one form or another for 200 years, and with the creation of new protective packaging and regular invention of new flavours and manufacturing techniques they will certainly follow the connoisseurs of the smoking world into the future.”
