Internet Dealers Shout Legal High
The widespread appearance of online recreational drug dealers has become an issue, as hallucinogenic drugs and stimulants are sold legally. Herbal dietary supplements, also known as non-therapeutic supplements, are sold online all over the USA. Doctors Cathy Dennehy, Candy Tsourounis and Amy Miller published an article in the October 2008 issue of the ‘Annals of Pharmacotherapy’, an independent medical journal that focuses on pharmacotherapy.
They found 28 distinct websites and surveyed them about selling herbal dietary supplements by using the terms ‘buy herbal high’ and ‘buy legal high’ as keywords. A total of 119 products and their adverse effects and contraindications were evaluated. These products were disguised as dietary supplements to be used in smoking form, because many websites suggested them as an alternative to marijuana. Salvia is one of the dietary supplements and is a Mexican herb that results in hallucinogenic effects. The doctors say that it is the marketing process that creates massive buyers online. According to them, the FDA can’t control the sale, though a law was passed by the US Congress for the separation of dietary supplements from other drugs.
Ephedra is the most frequently ordered recreational drug sold online, which is legal in Canada, though it is said in some reports that some users suffered from cardiac arrest. Second to that is salvia, the most famous legal high drug on the market. Health care professionals and local governments should be aware of this problem in order to decrease drug addiction in their countries.
