What is a Hookah Pipe and what is it used for?

Hookah pipes are universally used for smoking legal herbs. They are a kind of water pipe with a long hose attached to a vessel that houses the herbs and water. The water inside the vessel filters the smoke from the herbs, taking out the more dangerous chemicals. Not only does the water filter the smoke, it also cools the smoke so that it won’t be too harsh on the smoker’s lungs and throat.

The head of the hookah has a container that is like a bowl, where the coal and tobacco are placed. When you want to smoke put the tobacco into the bowl and cover it with a small piece of tin, or a glass or metal screen. The coals to be used should be placed on top, to heat the herb or tobacco up to the right temperature.

Another essential part of the hookah is the hose. The hose is the tube that serves as the passageway of the smoke from the herbs to the smoker.

The main part of the hookah, the body, is a hollow tube with a bowl on top. An ice bucket is sometimes placed between the body and the bowl to lower the smoke’s temperature. A thin tube is found at the bottom of the body where it is submerged in water. A gasket seals the part where the body is connected to the water jar. Sometimes there are two or three more holes there to put in more hoses for more smokers.

Hookahs have been used for centuries, mostly in the Middle East and India. Although, the popularity of this device has reached the western hemisphere and even Americans have been enjoying this treat. Some bars in the US even have these for their patrons to use.
