Tips on how to clean a glass bong

A bottle brush and water can be used to clean most bongs. However, a more powerful solution may be needed once tough build-up of smoke residue has started to collect. An expensive bong cleaning solution is not necessary; a little elbow grease can make even the dirtiest bong like new. Here are some easy steps in cleaning a glass bong.

First, remove the stem from the bong and empty the water from the chamber. Then add boiling or very hot water to the chamber and swish it around to remove any loose debris. To remove more stubborn debris, let the chamber cool and rinse it with cool water. Then pour ½ cup of white rice grains and ½ cup of rubbing alcohol into the chamber. Cover all the holes and shake for few minutes. Pour off and discard the alcohol and the rice. Next, pour very hot water into the chamber again and shake until any excess alcohol or rice is removed. Rinse with cool water and set the bong aside to dry. Before reassembling, you must allow the bong to dry completely. Afterwards, reattach the stem and fill the chamber with water to its normal level. Now, your clean bong is ready to use.

Abrasive materials may also be used to clean glass bongs without damaging them. Metho or methylated spirits may be used as an alternative to rubbing alcohol if needed. A combination of methyl and ethyl alcohol may also be used.
