Are White Lighters Bad Luck?
For years, a number of people have been complaining about the use of white lighters; all because white lighters supposedly bring bad luck. Apparently, to avoid ill fate, people refuse to use or touch such a lighter, and some even destroy them. Some regard it as an odd superstition, but there are many incidents or coincidences that prove the lighter’s bad luck.
In a school, a couple of guys needed a light so one of their classmates handed over her lighter. Seeing that it was white, the guys refused to take it. One of the guys related that he knew someone who used a white lighter and, afterwards, suffered three car accidents in a week. People say about those who have the nerve to carry white lighters that ‘they like to live dangerously’.
Some become irritated seeing a white lighter in their house. A man related how his friend shouted at him angrily because he was using a white cigarette lighter inside. His friend immediately slapped the lighter from his friend’s hand and stomped on it with his boot, while yelling at him. Then, bad luck struck: the lighter exploded in the kitchen.
A driver once asked a service station attendant to lend him a lighter, but when the boy handed him a white one, the driver refused. Others, believing the superstition or not, just don’t use white lighters. A mother said she prefers red lighters because her little boy never dares to touch it, recognising that red means dangerous. A soldier said he uses a pink lighter so no boys in the camp would steal it.
