How to Clean a Bong
A bong is a water pipe that is usually used to smoke tobacco, cannabis, or other substances. You may find it hard to clean a bong, because its shape and design make it difficult to access its interior. Also, a well used bong tends to accumulate resinous residue from being smoked. A dirty bong not only looks bad, but may give off an unpleasant odour that will destroy the taste of the smoking product. Basic bong maintenance is required, but is easy to perform.
To clean a bong, first detach the smoking screen from the bowl. Clean the screen by burning off any residue with a flame. Next, empty the water from the bong reservoir, and refill it with hot water. Cover the bong’s air holes with your hands and shake it well. Then empty the water. Next, add a few inches of rubbing alcohol to the bong reservoir and several tablespoons of salt, uncooked rice, or sea salt and shake the bong well. The rice or salt will serve as a mild abrasive on the inside of the bong while the alcohol acts as a solvent to remove any resinous residue. Shake until you see that the inside of the bong is clean, then empty the contents into a toilet.
Rinse the bong by adding several inches of clean, hot water and shaking it again. Repeat until you see it is clean and spill out the rinse water. You are ready to refill your bong with water, wine, or a liqueur.
